Carol-Ann Lantz oral history transcription

Lantz discusses her service in the Marine Corps, 1950-1955, as an enlisted officer. She comments on boot camp at Parris Island, her assignments, advanced schools, social life, Quantico, and her affection for the corps. Lantz was born in Warwick, RI in 1924. She attended Pembroke College for three years, served in the Marine Coprs, 1950-1955, ran a kennel, and married a Marine Corps Colonel in 1956. She is a member of the National Association of Women Marines. This oral history of part of the Women in Military Oral History Program.

Spruance and William F. Halsey, typhoon of 1944, Battles of Leyte Gulf and Okinawa, return to the US and discharge in 1946, College on the GI Bill and employment with Northeast Utilities. Positive comments about the Navy.

Betty Brown, born 1923, joined the WAVES in 1943 after registering on a dare at a recruiting booth in New York City. She attended boot camp at Hunter College and was displeased with the regimentation. She was then sent to storekeeper school in Milledgeville, Georgia. After completing her training, she was assigned to the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia where she worked at the Boat House. After the war ended, she got married and settled in various locations before retiring in Rhode Island. She discussed her experiences in the WAVES and reactions to key events in the war.
